The university (including its directly affiliated hospitals) currently has 6,369 faculty and staff members, among whom 1,822 are full-time teachers. The faculty includes 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 4 Masters of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Beijing University of Chinese Medicine is a national key university directly administered by the Ministry of Education of China, jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the National Health Commission, the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Beijing Municipal Government. Founded in 1956, it is the earliest higher education institution of traditional Chinese medicine approved by the State Council. As a renowned TCM university in China, it is the only TCM institution directly under the Ministry of Education, a key university under the "211 Project," and a participant in the "985 Innovation Platform for Advantageous Disciplines."
